New Poem: “Humanity”
This is a poem about us as a species. I wrote it this morning, actually. Finished maybe 20 minutes ago. There is so much hate and pain the world, and yet we have such amazing potential as a species. I hope you like it.
Humanity
We are an empty vessel
We are legion, we are vane
We’re a slowly burning candle
On a dusty window pane
We’re a hundred voices screaming
While a thousand silent, stay
We’re a glimmer in the twilight
We’re a star that never fades
We’re a song that’s sang in chorus
We’re in motion, never still
We’re a thought that never happened
And a dream that never will
We’re a fortune found in pennies
Each a cog in the machine
We’re a churning driving engine
We’re a ways away from peace
We’re one voice when we’re united
We’re unstoppable, and bold
We’re a menace to ourselves
We’re a story to be a told
We’re eight billion bags of water
We’re a world on the brink
We can only tip the balance
If we revise the way we think
We’re a species headed skyward
Or a race that’s doomed to burn
We’re a people of potential
We’re a race that needs to learn
We are seconds from our future
We are echoes of our last
Where we go is all dependent
On whether we learn from our past
